Many young drivers don’t realize the rates of deaths due to unsafe driving. Students learn first hand the effects of inattentive, reckless, and dangerous driving. Today young drivers are able to go through a driving course online, on their own. This is beneficial for people who are not able to drive to a place where they can be taught in person but this is also non-beneficial. A lot of the young drivers are not interested in actually reading and learning about the dangers of driving and all of the precautions that need to be taken when driving. They fly right through it as quickly as they can just to get behind the wheel. New, younger drivers need driver education to help reduce the wrecks that happen on a daily basis. If younger drivers were to be in an actual class or monitored while going through a driver education program then they will have to know the dangers while driving and the precautions to prevent those dangers. Driver education gives all you need to know about the dangers from, speeding and being careless to not driving while under the influence.
There are many ways to prevent deaths from driving. Deaths caused by careless driving but also the conditions of the road. Many people have died from collisions by hydroplaning and trying to overcorrect on wet or icy roads. This can be prevented by reducing your speed on a wet or icy road while staying cautious of other drivers. Another way is to drive friendly. Many people get in a hurry and have bad road rage. Slow down and be courteous to other drivers. A major cause of deaths from driving is from people driving while under the influence. If you have been under the influence or you know you will be under the influence find another way home or stay where you are. There is always another way to get home; whether it's by calling an uber or having a friend take you home.
I have had my fair share of either being in a wreck myself, being in the vehicle with someone who was not driving safe, or knowing of someone who was in a wreck. My wreck could have been prevented if I would have just waited a little bit longer to cross the intersection and if the other person would have been going the speed limit. Luckily no one was hurt in my wreck besides my car being totalled. My mom was in a wreck and now has three herniated discs in her lower back. This wreck could have also been prevented if the driver that rear ended her had been paying attention and not on her phone. Riding with someone that is an unsafe driver is not fun nor is it safe for anyone in the vehicle or driving around them. Being in a vehicle with someone that is swerving across the road on a highway and trying to swerve into people who try to pass is an extremely scary and unsafe situation. Luckily no one was hurt but I have learned how I do not want to drive from being in this situation. I have learned that wrecks and the deaths caused by wrecks can be easily prevented by being in or knowing of someone in a wreck because this experience will change your perspective and will naturally make you a safer driver. If people would just slow down, pay attention, and be courteous of other drivers, we could prevent a lot more deaths from driving.
Today I am a lot more patient and more aware of my surroundings while driving. I take my time at intersections, I am courteous of other drivers, and I never drive under the influence or ride with someone who has been under the influence. A very good way to stay away from having a wreck is being aware of your surroundings and the other drivers on the road. You don’t have to keep your eyes on the car right in front of you at all times. It’s good to look a couple cars ahead to know if you're going to need to stop or if something is going on ahead. It’s good to keep checking all of your mirrors periodically while driving. You need to know what is on both sides of you and what is going on behind you. And always use your signals when switching lanes or turning. It is very important to stay cautious on the road no matter what. This will prevent wrecks and death that so many have to experience.
