Importance of Safe Driving

With all the deaths and accidents we constantly see on the news that relate to driving, I believe it is important to have drivers education classes. Nowadays, it is more common to see people driving and texting or driving and eating especially among teenagers. Doing these things are dangerous because not only are you putting your own life at risk but a stranger’s life as well. For this reason, I think that drivers should be educated on what they can and can’t do while driving.
Personally, I have never been in a car accident but some of my family members have. I have seen several people close to me text and drive. One of these people is my brother. I’ve told him millions of times to not do it and explained to him the risks but he does not listen. I think that there are steps that should be taken to decrease the number of deaths related to driving. For instance, we can start by stating all of the things that put one’s life at risk if done while driving. One of the biggest causes of accidents related to driving is because people get behind the wheel while being intoxicated. This means they have consumed either drugs or some type of alcohol. This is dangerous because these substances affect a person’s mind and do not allow them to think straight. Drunk driving is one of the biggest reasons for driving accidents and fatalities.
Furthermore, some steps people can take in order to be a safer and more responsible driver consists of knowing the rules of driving wherever you live. Where I live, a person is not legally allowed to drive without a driver’s permit or license. In order to get this license, you must take a driving test and paper test as well. One can take driving classes which will teach you most of the things you need to know when driving. These things include: how to operate a vehicle, what signs on the road mean, and how to drive and be observant of your surroundings. Just by taking driving classes, one is already more prepared to take on driving at a responsible level. Another skill to learn so that you can be a safer driver is to be aware of what is around you. When driving, one must be constantly looking around and checking their mirrors to be prepared for anything. This can sound easy but it takes practice to be able to focus on two things at once which are driving and looking around at the same time.
Overall, it is crucial for there to be more focus on the education needed to drive. Especially nowadays when driving is a part of a person’s everyday life. We use cars to get everywhere we need to go and without the proper driving education, this can be very dangerous. I truly think that if we are aware of the importance of safe driving then the deaths and accidents caused by it can decrease.
