Car accidents are not new to anyone, some people have been first headly affected by them. There are many things that can help reduce car accidents, one being driver's ed classes. I personally took driver’s classes because I wanted to stay safe on the road, the first thing they taught us was that driving is a privilege and not a deserved right. These classes have reduced accidents because teens are taught how to drive defensively, they’re taught what and what not to do.I remember in one of my classes our advisor showed us a video of an unbuckled and distracted driving that has literally been engraved in my brain ever since. Many videos were shown in our classes that taught us to be focused on the road while driving, to not be distracted by food, other drivers, music, electronics or even our passengers.
As I mentioned before, I took the classes to be a safe drive. I didn't take that step until I was 18 years of age. When I was twelve, I was woken up to the news that I think no little girl wants to hear. At approximately 6 a.m on a school morning I woke up to my mom and oldest sister trying to rush out the door freaking out. I was then informed that my dad was in a very bad car accident caused by a drunk driver. I still remember getting those news as if it were yesterday. My father was on his way to work at 5:30, never had any of us imagined that 30 minutes later we’d be getting news that my father was injured and on his way to the hospital. Although my father was severely injured, he’s the only that was least injured out of the three. The drunk driver was peralyzed from the waist down and the passenger had his skull broken so badly that pieces of his brain were exposed and was in a coma for about two weeks to a month. I’m not sure what ended up happening to either of them, my dad decided he didn't want to press charges because he knew that the driver had to live with what he did that day for the rest of his life. I wasn’t physically affected that day but I was emotionally affected by what had happened. I had to see my dad laying in a hospital for weeks and even after that I had to see my dad walk with a limp on his leg and even try to ease the pain away after getting home from work. My fathers had dislocated his wrist and his left leg was broken in three parts, which he needed multiple surgeries for and several months of recovery.
That experience really reminded us that in a blink of an eye someone could lose a father, mother, sister, brother or any loved family member for that matter. Someone has lost a father, mother, sister, brother or any other family member. Driving isn't a joke and should never be treated as such. I believe that driver’s ed classes really do make mature and responsible drivers. These classes are provided and most certainly required for younger drivers since young drivers are seen more reckless, however, adults could also use these classes because anyone who is 18 or over aren’t obligated to take them but just because they are of age that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are mature and responsible drivers. Taking these classes could be a great start to become a responsible and mature driver.
