In the Blink of an Eye

Teens that take a drivers education course are more likely to avoid catastrophic events like a car crash that could lead to heartbreak. Driving comes with a huge responsibility and being safe while doing this involves: great education, no distractions in the car, and knowing how to operate such a powerful machine. Drivers education courses provide students with all of that knowledge and more to keep everyone on the road safe, including themselves. Recently having someone I know taken out of my life by reckless driving, this is a topic I am more than willing to talk about. The focus of a driver is to know that you always have someone’s life in your hands, and it is not something to take lightly.
It is important to always remember that your life is worth more than a couple minutes, so wait, take the safe way. Distractions such as phone calls, friends in the car, or messages, can always wait until you are safe and not at the risk of harming someone. So if this temptation to pick up your phone ever happens, just know waiting is always the right answer. Make sure to reach a safe spot on the road if in an emergency, and take necessary precautions such as turning on your hazard lights and pulling to the side of the road. Always steer clear of ingesting alcohol or drugs before driving to protect yourself and other drivers. This is all taught in courses, and teens should know these aspects of driving to limit the deaths on the road. Having good awareness and perception of the road is something that drivers education teaches, and is a trait that all drivers should have.
Being involved in 2 car accidents and knowing several people that have passed away from them, these lessons were drilled into my head. Although neither of these accidents were my fault, seeing the hurt in the person’s eyes is something I will never forget. I can’t tell you the amount of apologies I heard from those two experiences, but I do know that those people have learned, and are exceptional drivers now. Driving is something that people take very lightly when they should not. A life is so much more important than showing up late somewhere or being in a hurry. Safe driving comes with an enormous amount of responsibility and is learned throughout things like driver's education courses to prevent deaths on the road.
To become a better and safer driver, make sure to keep your distance on the road, drive when you believe you can and don’t take any chances. When there is bad weather or you believe you can’t drive, don’t risk your life or others. Make sure you have your lights on in fog or darkness, know that you and your passengers are safe and in seatbelts with the bottom strap across the waist and the top across the chest. Know what your distractions are whether it be music in the car, or loud friends in the backseat, always take precautions. Adjust your mirrors when getting into the car, and know that you are the only driver you can trust, so make sure you pay attention to oncoming traffic and cars. When you know all of these goals are accomplished, you are then ready to put the car into gear and take off on your way as the best driver on the road while keeping you and others safe.
