To assure that the number of homicides would be diminished, the following steps should be implemented. Not being intoxicated while driving and texting while driving, keeping a good distance between you and the other driver while driving, understanding the seat belt importance, driving cautiously based on the weather conditions, paying close attention to traffic intersections as well as the signals and signs that are on the road and knowing when/how to properly use your brakes. More steps include: making sure all vehicles are consistently serviced. In this way accidents will be mitigated alleviating all vehicles from being in awkward places on the road. Through these steps should bring forth clarity on how seriously being behind the wheel is. Being intoxicated and texting while driving is a step that should be more taken seriously with harsher consequences because this can be perceived as an intentional act due to reckless driving. In addition, there are more steps that goes more in-depth about what should be regarded while driving. Lastly, based on the steps provided, without us, “WE THE PEOPLE”, and government officials/politicians, strategizing how they can make the roads less chaotic and seemingly treacherous, homicides will continue to increase and take the place of a horror story.
The reason I am able to elaborate slightly on these guidelines that are not being followed is because I have been in multiple minor accidents and also witnessed. In my personal vehicle I have been in one accident. I found this moment to be comical and very upsetting. This had to be my first time experiencing a situation that I could not even make sense of, the intersection where all vehicles are not in motion, the traffic light is red and all the lanes were clear for me to merge over. Then, soon as I attempted to straighten out my wheel, BOOM! there it was, the car that let me go in front of them ran into the side of my vehicle. Another accident also transpired my sophomore year in high school, my grandmother was driving and I was the passenger. Unfortunately, the driver that hit us thought they had the right away and hit the passenger door I was sitting on, denting the door slightly. Moreover, being in the passenger seat again I decided to spend time with friends and still till this day I have no clue how I survived since we were going over 130mph. After being in so many nerve-wrecking circumstances, I realized he reality of reckless driving has no limits which is why immediate attention is needed.
Finally, there are many steps I can take to evolve into a better driver. Some bad habits that I currently do are texting while driving and sometimes not driving cautiously enough during bad weather conditions. I realize now that maintaining control of your vehicle at all times is very imperative, especially when friends or family may try to encourage bad habits. During harsh weather conditions, my main focus is on how quickly can I get home and not get caught by the conditions that I have to overcome, but now I remind myself that it is not worth my life to try and rush anywhere. So, to be a safer driver the easy answer is to abide by the mandate at all cost and holding myself accountable for not only me but others on the road. Consequently, everyone has similar thought processes and for that very reason I have to remain vigilant. Lastly, this same advice I would give to others, stay vigilant, maintain a safe speed and protect yourself the best you can.
