The importance of drivers ed for students just learning is to
assist in reducing the number of accidents and deaths. By educating
new drivers to the rules of the road, will help in both of these
areas. It teaches students how to respect other drivers and the laws
related to driving. It benefits every driver.

There are many steps we as new drivers as well as those who have been
driving for a long time. A few things I find most important are
distracted driving and driving under the influence of anything. If
Anyone who is driving can follow just these 2 simple rules, this
would help in the reduction of injuries and deaths. Too many people
have too many devices that distract them while driving and in
addition, too many people think the effects of drugs and alcohol
won’t change the way they drive. If drivers ed can add a
simulator to the classes, it can show the students while in the
simulator, the consequences of their actions. Sometimes, seeing is
believing.

I have experienced being in a car accident 2 years ago with my
mother. We were actually stopped at a traffic light, and the light
turned green and we had the right of way. Someone decided to blow
the red light on their side and proceeded into the intersection which
we just went into. This resulted in my mother needing shoulder
surgery. She was alone 1 week after her therapy from the shoulder
surgery and was stopped at a railroad crossing. Again, was hit in
the rear by an incoming senior just fresh out of drivers ed. He
thought the traffic was going to move and did not stop, or was on his
phone, but regardless, he did not stop as the rest of the traffic
was. This time, this accident resulted in my mother needing Disc
fusion surgery, which she is still out of work.

The things I would do to become a better driver is constantly refresh
the traffic laws, constantly read stories about recent accidents and
ways they could have been prevented, and also take defensive driver
classes every few years. I feel DMV should make mandatory laws
stating that you have to take these classes every 5 years, take
another road test, and do a simulated driver test with distractions
and obstacles thrown in to see how you would react. This would help
every remember the rules, the laws and the safety of being a good
driver.
