Driver
Education Initiative Essay Contest
In
the Driver's Seat
By
implying the need for drivers ed, it will, in the end, help
reduce the number of deaths by car accidents. A well known motto is
that the more you know, the better. This can be applied to driving.
The more people are educated the safer and more aware they become.
Steps to ensure the decrease of deaths related to driving is to
require drivers ed for everyone. As of now if you wait long
enough you don't have to take drivers ed and can just take the
permit test and start driving. If everyone would be required to take
this course, it would educate everyone on the road. Other steps that
can help insure the number of deaths related to driving to decrease
would be to make the permit test harder. At the moment, people who
haven't taken drivers ed can easily just look over a manual
before the test and pass, even though they don't actually know the
rules of the road. If the test were to contain questions that one
would only know if they actually took the course it would insure
people to be more informed.

When
I was in second grade, I was with my mom driving home from school
when we got into a critical car accident. We were turning around a
tight corner and a car coming from the opposite direction had drove
over in our lane causing us to swerve out of the way to miss them. We
ended up hitting a telephone pole and totalling the car. Both my mom
and I were rushed to the hospital. We both ended up with pretty
severe concussions and my mom broke her wrist. Later that evening, we
were talking with the cops about the accident and they told us how
the other driver admitted to texting and driving and was speeding
around the turn. By this one person not caring for the rules of the
road, they put both my mom and myself in harms way. This happens to
people all over the world every day. However, if it was harder for
people to acquire their license, they would appreciate it more. If
people appreciated their ability to drive more and did not treat it
as something easily obtainable, they would respect driving and treat
it with respect.

One
step that I can do to ensure better driving on the road is to not
text and drive and not speed. Also ifI am in the car with someone, I
can make sure they do the same. If everyone began to do that, the
roads would be a safer place and unnecessary car accidents would
reduce dramatically.
