Driving a vehicle
can be a terrifying thing. All those cars driving on the roads with
only a line separating the lanes. These are times when one has to
place their trust in others on the road to keep them alive. Drivers
are to be educated before driving, in order to help them learn of the
dangers and take the steps to become safer drivers.

Drivers ed
is one of the very first steps of obtaining a license and being able
to hit the road. Often times, the classes are full of students that
are just beginning to learn to drive and are not often aware of the
perilous dangers of the road. These classes help educate these avid
learners and provide examples of good driving on the road, educating
these individuals on the car, dangers of the car, and traffic laws.
The common knowledge of these laws help keep dangers from arising on
the roads. Laws such as staying in one lane and not in both lanes
keeps drivers from head on collisions. Many traffic laws exist to
keep people from doing whatever they want when driving.

The classes also
educate on distracted driving, something that is often ignored but is
a major cause of car accidents because drivers are not focusing on
the road. Distracted driving could be the car radio, cell phone,
plugging in a charger, or anything else that takes one’s eyes off
the road and hands off the wheel. To prevent such distracted driving,
it is a good idea to leave a cell phone in a cubby or pocket that is
not in your hands and adjust music, chargers, or other things while
the car is stopped and in park. Distracted driving causes many
accidents because it takes the focus of the driver away, leaving at
least one driver driving recklessly without being aware of the road
and their surroundings.

When I was younger,
my mother was a distracted driver. She turned to look at me while I
was playing with a barbie and sitting in the front seat, despite my
young age. During the time of looking at me, she rear ended a car
that had been stopped at a stop sign. Luckily, no one was injured,
only my mother’s ego.

Drivers are
educated so that they know the dangers of distracted driving. It is
the responsibility of the driver to put off whatever they think they
need to be doing because it is not worth their life or another
person’s life.
