Driving can be a dangerous task if not taken seriously or without an experienced driver teaching you how to drive. According to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a study showed that young drivers who have not completed driver's education are 75% more likely to get a traffic ticket, 24% more likely to be involved in a fatal or injury accident and 16% more likely to have an accident. In my experience, driver’s education has helped me become more aware of my surroundings, a safer driver and more comfortable as a new driver. Although driving can be a dangerous task there are many steps we can take to prevent deaths and injuries related to driving. For example, avoid drinking, texting and any other form of distracted driving, stay within the posted speed limit, always make sure you and your passengers have your seat belt on. These are just some of the many steps we can take to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. While riding in the passenger seat I have witnessed car accidents and I have also been in one. These accidents happen due to people drinking while driving, speeding, and using the cellphone. When I was in the car accident, the person behind us was using his cellphone. He wasn’t paying attention and he accidentally rear ended us. Being in this situation was not only terrifying but a learning experience. I learned that a phone call or a text isn’t worth answering if I am putting myself or other people’s lives in danger.
