Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of deaths of children and adults between the ages of 5 and 25 because road crashes kill more than 1.3 people annually (WHO, 2021). Distracted driving, driving under the influence (DUI), reckless or unsafe driving, running red lights, ignoring stop signs, and untrained driving are the most common causes of road accidents in the United States (The National Law Review, 2020). Some steps for reducing deaths related to driving include preventing untrained drivers from operating vehicles, strictly averting driving under the influence (DUI), necessitating seat belts, ensuring adherence to speed limits, stopping using phones while driving. Distractions caused by smartphones or other factors are the leading causes of deaths in automobile accidents. However, taking strict legal action against using smartphones during driving can significantly reduce accidents and fatalities. Preventing untrained drivers from operating automobiles can significantly reduce collisions or reckless driving and decrease deaths resulting from accidents. Driver education and training can reduce car accidents and prevent deaths by improving people’s awareness and knowledge of road safety and regulations. Training people not to drive after excessively consuming drugs and alcohol is also vital for preventing road accident deaths. Imposing strict penalties can also stop people from driving under the influence and causing deaths related to car accidents. Necessitating wearing seat belts through legislation and awareness is also essential in minimizing deaths related to automobile accidents. Ensuring people follow speed limits on highways and ordinary streets can curtail road accidents and resulting fatalities.
Car accidents can be life-changing if they are serious because they tend to affect the life of an individual physically and psychologically. I experienced a horrendous accident, and it has been over four years, but I can recall the entire event when someone asks me about it. I was moving at a moderate speed in the middle lane, and it was all going well, but my car just malfunctioned, and I was unable to apply brakes. I was in a state of shock because I didn’t understand how I manage this situation. I was in a state of panic when I turned the car during this phase and the car crashed sideways into a container. The myriad of airbags inflated to my side and then quickly deflated. I experienced extreme pain in my right arm, and I saw some bloodstains on my left leg. I was in a state of shock and my head was wobbling as I was unable to grasp myself from this situation. I don’t remember how I got out of my car; I just remembered that I was in extreme pain and the left side of my car was damaged.
It is imperative to be a safe driver because driving safely cannot only safeguard the life of the driver, but it can also enhance the safety of others on the road. The first step is to think about safety first and people should be aware of their surroundings by paying attention. They should not depend on other drivers, and it is important to follow the 3 to 4-second rule. The drivers should keep the speed down and they should always drive in a way that they should have an escape route. Similarly, people should also cut distractions from their routes, and they should also avoid mobile phones as it might risk their lives. The notion of attention while driving is important, and drivers should always avoid multitasking to attain beneficial results. People should also respect the opinion of others while driving and they should follow the rules to depict that they are responsible citizens.
