Is
It Worth It


Growing
up, I loved being in a car; the excitement I get from a drive is not
replaceable. I get so over-zealous that I nearly jump out the seat of
the car. I first started driving at around the age of 15 in a car. My
first time in the driver's seat could this event be happening right
now to myself. I was divining over to my granny’s house for
Thanksgiving dinner.


As
I was turning the corner, I saw several Emergency Medical Service
vehicles clogging up the middle of the road. My mom, dad, brother and
I all got out together and began walking towards the trucks. My mom
screamed as loud as a lion's roar. When I approached the back of the
truck, I saw my grandma laid on a stretcher. I was astonished, I
couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then, medical doctors pushed us
back abruptly and closed the doors. My mom asked, "What
happened”?" Is she okay”? The doctor responded calmly saying
he is in good hands; you have no reason to worry. “Then, they left
going to hospital. All of us were emotionally distraught and sought
after the Emergency Medical Service vehicle.


After,
about 35 minutes of driving and parking we went to her emergency room
number 191. We saw her being operated on for head and internal brain
damage. There also was the passenger of the vehicle, but she wasn't
wounded as badly. My mom questioned her about what had transpired to
cause the collision. The woman responded, saying " she was
speeding and texting her son whom she never got time to fully send
the message. “The woman was in ears feeling guilty allowing her
friend to speed and text while driving. “The woman was in ears

The person she hit died two days later. The week after my grandmother
died due to severe brain damage. I began to think to myself what
would have happened if she wasn't texting and driving? Nobody could
have been hurt and everybody could still be going home alive, but the
risk people take texting and driving is it worth it.

Families
are forever broken, and they cannot seem to be at peace at a mistake
that should be avoided. Millions of innocent lives taken abruptly,
but it could have been avoided if you waited till you reached your
destination to pick up the phone. Think about everybody that loves
you and how they would feel if you were to die. Don't be selfish and
think about yourself and your family and other drivers around you
that want to go home and kiss their family goodnight. Don't risk 15
to 30 seconds of socializing for another 60 years of living. Be safe
and put the phone down and follow all road guidelines to give
yourself the best opportunity to live.
