Many times, when we consider a drivers ed, we picture a punishment for being part of the automobile accident. But what if we try to look at it from a different perspective, driver education is a way for us to get informed about ways of escaping or avoiding accidents that we tend not to think about. With it, we are more likely to help reduce the number of casualties that occur throughout the years. But what would you say? First, we should understand the common ways people get into such accidents. There could be various reasons for it such as feeling tired, drowsy or losing control of the wheel and others. Second, review ways people could use to avoid getting into these accidents. One of which is making sure you are physically and mentally able to drive for a while. If not, don’t make yourself drive a long drive if you are feeling unwell. Lastly, try to get yourself out into the real world and promote road safety rules and regulations.
Now that we have discussed a little about driver’s education, let’s think about ways of reducing any catastrophes or deaths. I know that we have mentioned some of the things to do to reduce it, but there is more to them. The main reason for the accidents is the distractions that are around us from small to big. For example, when we sit into the car and begin driving, we don’t always seem to notice as we begin to scroll on our phone to find music, text someone or watch a movie or a short clip. Such distractions can cause us to look away from the road and within those few seconds everything around us can change. So in order for you as a driver to monitor the road with a limited amount of distractions, you should pull to the side of the road or go to the rest area to get some rest or find a playlist that will play as long as the road without needing you to switch to something else. Or you can turn on a radio that will play some music.
On a Friday night, when everyone was heading to their dorms, me and my friends decided to go out for a couple of hours to eat and relax for a bit before next week's tests. As we rented out a car, we headed to a nearby restaurant that was about 15 minutes away from our campus and had a lovely view. Luckily, there were not many people then, so we got our seats quickly. Without taking too much time deciding on what we wanted to eat, we ordered few dishes and some drinks. As the food and drinks were served to us, I could smell the sweet and salty aroma of the food and then a scent of alcohol surrounded us. I later figured out that some of my friends decided to try out new drinks that they offered but less did they know that it had alcohol in them. Before any of them took a sip, I decided to tell them that it would be better to not drink it now since one of us must take us back to campus. But in reply, they all told me that it would be alright, and I did not have to bother them about this. So, as they all consumed the food and the drinks, they all seemed to have high tolerance and sober. When we all exited the restaurant, one of them took a driver’s seat and called everyone inside to go to the campus. But in fear, I asked the person who said to drive us back feels good and whether he is sure he can drive us back. In response, he told me not to worry and that he feels perfectly fine. Feeling assured, I sat back with the rest of the group and the car began to set on the road. Throughout the whole road, I could began to feel worried as the driver started to go off the lines and close his eyes throughout the time. During this time, many of my friends fell asleep, but I kept on checking on the driver to ensure a safe trip to the campus. As we got back to the campus, I right away got everyone back to their dorm safely and tiredly walked back to my dorm.
After this incident, I realized that no matter what people tell me after drinking anything with alcohol, it is better to order a driver rather than have someone who has exposed themselves to alcohol to drive. It is never safe to have someone under the influence of driving. In the future, there are many steps to take to ensure a safe road for yourself and others such as checking yourself on whether you are feeling good to drive, limiting any distractions that can result in poor driving and addressing any unsafe driving habits if you see them in your friends or family.
