Hello, I will be applying for the “Driver Education Initiative Award Scholarship”. My educational objective is to graduate in 2025 with a Certificate for Automotive Technology. This scholarship will help me further my career in learning about motor vehicles and various tools. In the future I hope to gain various skills in my field of learning and hope to one day work for my dream job which is being a car mechanic.Thank you for this oppurtunity.
The importance of driver education is an important topic to discuss with the masses. Without driver's education, there would be no rules or laws to follow while driving on the road which can lead to frequent accidents and bad driving habits. Driver's education is the best way to learn how to properly control a passenger vehicle and to gain confidence in yourself on how to drive with little to no error. It is important that drivers education is taught due to the high death rates that are caused thru car accidents every year. It's our duty as American citizens to keep our roads safe for pedestrians and drivers to lessen the dangers of the road.
For example, I have had only one accident in my driving history that I would like to discuss. In the year 2023, I was driving home from work and noticed in my rear view mirror a car traveling at a high rate of speed toward me. I was going the speed limit which was 50 Miles Per Hour, when suddenly she was tailgating my rear bumper very closely. I could barely see the car's front bumper and headlights. The small amount of room she had behind me was that of Nascar drafting. As we kept driving through the vast desert, we ended up slowing down due to an intersection with a stop sign for us to stop at. My car slowed up to the white line where the stop sign was and I saw a truck coming down the hill to the left of me so I stopped and waited. But the White car behind me kept pulling forward and rear ended me. We both pulled off to the side of the road and checked the damage. Her car was fine, but my rear bumper popped out and I couldn't get it back in. Luckily no one was injured but her excuse was that she was distracted with the radio.
My family also has some very bad driving habits that have led them to trouble in the past. My family has a tendency to get real mad when other drivers cut them off, leading to screaming anger and inappropriate sign gestures. It's a practice that I have no interest in learning. An example of this behavior was told to me through my dads bad experience with another driver. Before I was born, my family had just got done visiting my grandma. They were on their way home until a reckless driver cut my dad off resulting in road rage. The reckless driver and my dad both exited their cars and were ready to confront each other. The reckless driver decided to pull out a gun and shot it at my dad. Luckily the bullet missed, but my dad got more heated and charged at him. The reckless driver decided to flee before he got to him.
These stories and experiences have led me to become more patient and understanding to other drivers. This has helped me become way more safer when I drive due to all the circumstances that can occur on the road. The steps that I take to become a better and safer driver is to always practice self-control. It's important to realize that getting mad is not the answer. You have to have patience and control over your emotions because you can get into accidents way easier due to your outbursts. Another step I like to follow is to always be aware of your surroundings. Checking your blindspots is the best way to keep from getting hit and to make sure you don't make that mistake as well. Also, don't be distracted while driving and always wear your seatbelt for your own safety.
In the end, Driving safety is the number one priority when it comes to our country and for me as well. It's important to properly train new drivers to get them prepared for the real world and to keep people from getting into really extreme car accidents that result in death.
