From driving around in little, empty neighborhoods with your mother; to the moment you get your license, you MUST have the driver’s education to prevent accidents from happening. No matter where you are or how busy the street is, you always need to practice this to promote safe driving. Not only do you have the power to hurt yourself, but also you have the power to take others’ lives. Drivers ed can inform and educate new drivers on how to be safe and save lives on the road. Even taking a one-hour class on drivers ed can prevent innocent lives from being lost. It is as simple as learning how to use a blinker. 

The steps to promote safety on the roads takes time and focus. Taking and passing your permit test signifies you have studied, but now you are ready to drive. The next six months are crucial to your driving experience. Depending on how busy the streets are, the vehicle, and how often you are behind the wheel, it affects your driver’s test outcome. A lot of driving instructors recommend taking driving courses to help ensure and promote safe roads for new drivers.

My two good friends, Samantha and Drew, were heading to the mall for a shopping trip. Samantha was driving and made a wrong turn into a neighborhood. She quickly turned around in a cul de sac and was preparing to turn left. There was a thick wall of Oleanders blocking their view, so Samantha kept inching out more and more before a black car came smashing into them going sixty miles per hour. They both could not remember a single thing after seeing the car headed for them. Drew woke up in the hospital with a shattered eye socket and jaw. The doctors at the hospital said the side of Drew’s face must have hit the dashboard then the airbag deployed. Drew ended up having to get plastic surgery. Samantha, got lucky, came out of the car with a couple stitches, and bruised bones, both with severe concussions. This event was a huge wake-up call to all my friends and myself. Seeing my two good friends in the hospital with dried blood and their faces all banged up was a sight I will never forget. It showed us all just how severe and serious getting behind the steering wheel of a car is.

Driving is a major responsibility and many forget that. Promoting safe driving can be as simple as telling your friend to change the song at a red light or respond to that one text once we stop. Our society is heading down a better path. Apple has a new feature in which your iPhone senses how fast you are moving and reminds you not to use your phone while in the car. Texting and driving is now becoming illegal in many states as an effect of multiple deaths.
