Having
recently completed drivers ed, I can strongly say that it
is a necessity for learning how to prevent car accidents in the
future. More knowledge of the rules of the road allows for better
handling of your vehicle. With my recent education of how to navigate
a roadway, it allows me to notice the mistakes others make while
driving. Their mistakes might have been made due to their lack of
awareness or their lack of familiarity with the laws of driving.
Although
U.S. highway fatalities have gone down in recent years, knowing the
laws of driving can help reduce the number of driving-related deaths
even more. Many fatal car crashes are the result of ignorance behind
the wheel. If drivers were more aware of how dangerous vehicles are,
they would be more cautious and alert when driving. The lack of
wearing a seatbelt while driving is the number one cause of death in
a car accident. Wearing your seatbelt is the first step in preventing
death in an accident.

Being
in multiple car accidents has brought to my attention the lack of
awareness humans have of other drivers on the road. In the most
recent accident, the car I was in ran a red light. We were hit on the
passenger side by an older woman in an SUV. Had the driver of the car
I was in been paying more attention to their surroundings, they could
have prevented the accident.
While
you cannot prevent all deaths or car accidents, there are many steps
one can take in being a safer driver as well as help others become
safer on the road. One step is to learn from past mistakes and
correct your behaviors on the road. If you cause an accident by
running a stop sign, be more alert of your surroundings when driving
in the future. Another step is to review local driving laws. This
makes all the difference when knowing what to do in an unfamiliar, or
stressful situation while driving. Sharing your knowledge with others
is the last step in becoming a safer driver and help others become
safer on the road. When you share your newly-found knowledge with
others, it will allow them to be more aware of the laws while
driving.
