1.It is important for drivers to be educated in road safety as this knowledge can help to reduce the risk of serious injury or even possible death occurring. By having drivers with comprehensive knowledge of the rule on the road, less people are likely to be injured. This will reduce the demand for people relying on government pensions for care due to their injuries and fewer people are in hospital. This in turn will mean less disrupted lives, more people able to continue to contribute to society through their work which in turn helps the economy. These fatal driving accidents are generally a result of unsafe drivers making bad decisions while driving and this can be linked back to a lack of education. Being a safe driver is more than just obeying the road rules which are enforced but having the knowledge to manoeuvre the vehicle in a safe and smart way. This can come in the form of knowing when it is the safest time to change lanes or how long to drive before needing to take a break to reduce fatigue and loss of focus. Overall to ensure that drivers are staying safe on our roads we need our country to become better educated on driver safety. Car accidents impact society as a whole such as the family that lost a loved one due to a car crash to the fear and damage it caused for the whole neighbourhood, drivers need to be better educated on our roads.
2. Driving education is based around the steps and skills a person needs to have mastered and understood in order to be as safe as possible on the road. Driving education gives people the necessary tools and knowledge to be able to perform and manoeuvre a vehicle in the safest possible way. If there are more educated drivers on our roads it has a greater effect on the number of accidents and fatal incidents that happen across the country. This is because driver education gives Americans the knowledge and skills that is required to be able to make intelligent and safe decisions while driving. Steps that could be taken include having free driving lessons for young people who are full time students, free information and educational videos on government website and even advertisement about the dangers of not knowing driver etiquette. Providing these supports will support parents and guardians to teach their children about the importance of being a safe driver on the road. Other steps could include short videos on social media to educate young people about the current laws in their state. Incentives like offering people $50 off tyres if they complete a driver education online course could be another option.
3.) I have been in a car accident myself when I was in high school around the age of 16-17. I was driving home in my parents’ car and there was traffic as usual leaving the school. My parents’ car was manual, and I was a fairly confident driver but still probably could use one or two more lessons to become completely confident in the art of driving a manual car. As I was stopped and the next car moved forwards, I put the car into first gear, but missed it so looked down to see where the gear had landed. I then look down as I found first gear and engaged it, but by this time the traffic had come to a halt, so instead I slightly accelerated into the car in front of me that was now stopped. This accident was only a minor incident but was caused by my inexperience in driving a manual car. If I had more experience in how to balance the act of changing gears while also being able to keep all my attention on what was happening ahead of me, I could have stopped this accident from happening.
4.) Steps that I could take in order to become a safer driving is take a few driving lessons with instructors to help me develop my skills and improve my understanding about safely controlling the car. By doing this, it would help me to be able to make smarter decisions while driving which would overall improve my own and my passengers safety (plus other drivers on the road. Another step I could take to ensure Im as safe as possible is to review my driving handbook which has all the road rules and check I understand all the current regulations, such as what to do when driving through school zones and even what lanes on motorways are better for drivers that are new or learning.
To help make my friends safe I could: make sure they turn their mobile phone off, or put it away when driving, offer to drive if they appear tired, make sure I don’t get into a car with a driver who I think may be drunk and discourage friends from unsafe acts like road racing. Finally, there are many good government programs online now that help educate you on being the safest driver possible and what to look out for while driving with friends and family. By implementing all of these steps I believe that these would help make a young driver like myself the safest and most knowledgeable on the road, therefore putting us all at a reduced risk of injury and possible death.
