Saturday morning,
the sun was shining bright and the smell of gravel was all around.
Twelve-year-old me looking out the window trying to make out the
buildings we were passing through the cloud of dirt the tires of the
car threw up. All of a sudden, I was thrown out of my dream state by
a yell from my dad that only comes out when I really make him mad. I
whipped my head to look out of the front window. To my surprise
Instead of open road I saw a tanker come barreling into the
intersection as we quickly approached it as well. We continued toward
it and ended up hitting the end of it. There were no serious or major
injuries on anyone in the car but Soon after I learned that the
accident was caused because my dad was driving distracted. This is
one of many different scenarios where dangerous driving habits have
or almost have hurt people. I have gone through drivers ed as well as
most of the people my age have and I think this is a great start to
help reduce crashes, injuries, and other negative things that can
happen due to driving. Driving is a Privilege not a right. Those who
use it responsibly should be fine when driving. Therein lies the
issue of the irresponsible drivers. We are a generation addicted to
phones and we use them twenty-four/seven, even while driving. There
are endless numbers of crashes and incidents involving both cars and
phones. Some even say it is a sort of epidemic and, if you come to
think of it, maybe they are right. Most people in the world have or
know someone who has been affected and it needs to stop. We can all
start by staying off our phones! If we want change, we need to make
it happen. The other obvious step is to make sure we all know how to
drive. Drivers Ed is one of the greatest things we have to teach
that, if it weren’t for drivers ed then we would have a lot more
deaths due to poor driving. All in all, me as well as other drivers
need to step up and make the change. Don’t wait for a change, make
it happen.
