Prompt:
Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have
seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?
“Ms.
Perfectionist”
I
remember the first time I got my license, I was so excited but
terrified at the same time. Growing up, I was an extremely cautious
little girl because of how overprotective my parents were since I was
their only biological child. Surprisingly enough my parents were not
as strict and overprotective when I started learning how to drive, I
remember trying so hard to be perfect so I could impress my father. I
wanted to be perfect at everything: every turn I make, memorizing the
destinations beforehand and parking. The first time I got into an
accident was the time when I was going to the library to study, I was
not paying close attention and went straight on a left turn lane,
thankfully I wasn’t hurt and the only thing that happened was that
a truck rear ended me. After getting a mouthful from the very mad
truck driver, I started bawling my eyes out because I was scared of
how my parents were going to act but their reactions surprised me
because they were not mad, they were just thankful that I didn't get
hurt. I remember my father saying that “a car is replaceable but
you're not.” I admit I was scared to drive for a month straight. I
couldn’t stop flinching whenever I saw a truck and whenever I was
driving. I honestly did not want to drive anymore but my father told
me that no one is perfect and no matter how cautious you are,
accidents can always happen that they are my lesson to always pay
attention when driving and it shouldnt hinder me from living my life.
This overly cautious personality still follows me today but I learned
not to be so scared and to just live life because you will never know
what can happen.
