Driver’s
Education has been a big part of my life. I personally had an
experience in which one specific Drivers Ed lesson almost saved my
life and definitely a good amount of money. On my seventeenth
birthday I had only had my license for about three months. I was
driving to my party and less than a mile before I got there I got
rear ended at a stoplight. However, luckily I was far enough behind
the car in front of me so I did not rear end them. I remembered
learning specifically from my Drivers Ed to stop your car far back
enough that you can see their back tires. Since I didn’t hit the
car in front of me, the other driver who rear ended me was at total
fault. This was a very traumatizing experience for me however, it
could’ve been much worse without my knowledge gained from this
program. Drivers Ed helps students understand every part of
driving. One idea I have about encouraging safer driving is to
require some sort of Drivers Ed lesson every time someone renews
their license. I think this is a smart idea because everyone forgets
things. This can ensure that everyone remembers to drive safe. While
I was going through my Drivers Ed I had a harsh wakeup call that
driving was really more difficult then turning the key and pressing
the gas. I learned that driving is also a challenge for your mind.
Not only do you have to watch out for yourself but you also have to
watch out for others. I have been driving for almost a year and I
still am very cautious and I plan to always be. I have seen many
accidents and I am completely terrified. Everytime I pass by one I
make sure I pray for the people going through it. As for myself I
have made a set playlist of music for my car so I never have to pick
up my phone, not even to do something as little as changing the song.
I also always put my phone on do not disturb so I cannot get
distracted. Another little trick I have to stay safe is to always
wait three seconds after the light turns green just in case there is
any car that tries to run through a red light. Lastly, I learned to
count to three at all stop signs to ensure a long enough stop. These
are just a few of the things I learned from Drivers Ed. I believe
this is extremely important to ensure driver’s safety. I give my
thanks to all law enforcers that spend their days keeping our
community safe.
