The very important about driving education in reducing the number of deaths is comes down to age, time, experience and driving habits. The state of Virginia allows the driver to be 16 years and 3-month-old to obtain a driver’s license. To obtain a learner’s permit the age is 15 years old and 6 months. I simply think the age requirement is to young to have driver’s license at age 16 years old. I believe age of 18 to 21 years old is appropriate since majority of our kids attend college or either go join the military. Students do not need cars on the campus since most of the time the car is sitting in the parking lot and most school offer transportation service to local area nearby. Every State should have more training hours for young drivers in order to drive on major roadways. Young drivers tend to get excited on very simple things which distracts them from driving, young drivers will text & talk, use web on their phone or move around and dance while driving and these young drivers forgets the vehicle is a deadly weapon when it comes to driving them. Parents being pressured by these young drivers and other family members and advertising on TV which leads to buying cars for our young adults. Many parents do it, so they don’t have to drive them or get them off their back, so they don’t get bothered.

First step is to talk to your local officials and tell them what you would like them to do regarding having young drivers on the road. Give them the good and bad, allowing the officials to thing and decide what steps they can take to make new laws.

2nd step I would take is talking to my children and talking to them about the routine, the habits and what can happen when driving distracted. My son who is 18 years old and go to Mary Baldwin University has a Learner Permit, he said to me Dad I am not ready since driving is to dangerous and for me to drive one must be very responsible and careful on the road. He has over 300 hours driving time and drives very good but, in his mind, he thinks driving requires talent and a lot of experience in order to be safe driver. I do agree with him and I do not push but he does drive when comes home for small break.

I was in car accident on my birthday last year, I was hit from rear by young drivers at speed of 75 mph. Their car was totally crushed under my vehicle, but vehicle was damaged from rear and I received many injuries, but they had worst injuries since they were in distract from being on the phone and paying attention on the road. These students were 18-20 years of age.

I have always been a defensive driver; I watch others how they driver and I drive accordingly to their driving habits. I am not a perfect driver but a safe driver. I used to teach drivers ed and the first I would have them learn how to read a map. I would give them quiz regarding the map. I always tell new drivers know your routes, street names and direction they are traveling toward, and they also need to know how to come using alternative routes incase if roads are block incase of emergency. The more time these young drivers spent by driving on small roads or parking lots doing parking tricks becoming more confident in their driving, the better drivers they will become.
