No
Cop? Still Stop

Many
causes of car accidents in this society has become failure to follow
the rules written in the DMV booklet. After a certain amount of
careful driving, teens and adults become reckless and influenced by
other bad driving methods. A notable example of this is the common
saying, “no cop, no stop.” Because of our fast-paced society,
many students prefer to run a stop sign rather than wait three
seconds to check their surroundings and proceed with caution. There
are nearly 70,000 car accidents each year due to a person running a
stop sign, according to the Hoffman Law Firm. Reducing this number
just takes a few simple steps worth thousands of lives in the long
run.

Popularizing
the improved saying “No cop? Still stop” can make a large impact
for new drivers. By posting this quote on social media through ads on
Instagram, it will introduce more people to the problem. With that,
posting an additional statistic or a victim's story will help raise
awareness and gain followers.

In
the spring of 2018, my close friend was hospitalized because of a
reckless driver running a stop sign. After a long night at an outing,
she started walking towards her car across the street. After checking
both ways at a crosswalk my friend proceeded with caution until the
heel of her shoe broke in the middle of the street. Bending down to
take her heel off, a car going full speed ran right into her,
ignoring the stop sign. She blacked out and woke up five hours later
in the hospital with a broken neck, three broken vertebrates and a
sprained arm. She didn’t know where she was or who her father was.
After several months of physical therapy, she is back to 95%
mobility. She is one of the lucky ones. Experiencing a collision with
low survival chances, she lived and became an inspiring story.

No
matter how late you will be, stop. Take three seconds. Proceed with
caution. Three steps, three seconds. That’s all it takes. Do your
part in this society and respect the rules. You never know whose life
you could save.
