Driving a car is a privilege. It’s not a right, and it carries a lot of responsibility with it. Everyone should be excited to drive but it’s important to learn how to drive safely to avoid accidents with everyone you share the road with. Driver’s Ed was made to inform young students about road laws and how to drive safely, and although it can be a boring class and seem obvious and pointless at times, it is taught the way it is because it works. The lessons and practices that are taught in Driver’s Ed courses have worked and they will serve you well if you pay attention and get them right in the beginning. A great way to get extra practice and knowledge is to put the phone down when you are a passenger in a car and paying attention. By doing this you can pretend that you are the driver and simulate the decisions you would make, learn how to best approach different situations, all without being the actual driver so that when you do get behind the wheel you will have some extra knowledge. One thing that cannot be stressed enough in courses is to never leave room for doubt. Don’t drink any alcohol before driving and leave the phone down in the car, just because you don’t see it in front of you often or it hasn’t happened to you before doesn’t mean it’s impossible to happen to you. All you need to do is ask yourself, if I somehow got into an accident because of alcohol or my phone, would it be worth it? Could I live with the consequences? Asking those questions will save you a lifetime of pain and regret. Listening to your parents and driver’s instructors when learning to drive will ensure you stay safe and have fun while driving.
