Taking
drivers ed gives someone a better understanding of general
rules. You are taught the law, and learn what is expected of you when
you begin to drive. Drivers ed helps reduce the number of
driving deaths by learning defensive driving, how to pay attention to
all your surroundings, and to drive as safely as possible. Some steps
that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths due to driving is to
eliminate as many distractions as possible, taking more defensive
driving courses, and generally paying more attention to your
surroundings as you drive.
Teenagers,
or even adults can put their phone in a place where it won’t be a
distraction. If there is someone in the passenger seat, let them take
care of anything technology related like directions, or answering a
text. When someone is out drinking, they can take an Uber to the
place they are wanting to go to, so that they don’t have the
temptation to drive home drunk.
I
have never been in a car accident, but I have family members who
drive while texting or scrolling on their phones. When driving with
them I’m always nervous but then I tell them I can take care of
whatever they need on their phone. I always remind them of the danger
they’re putting themselves and others in when they do those things.
To
become a safer driver I can make sure I set everything up before I
start driving. If I need to look at directions I pull them up and put
them on my phone holder and review the directions before I leave. If
I want to play music I set it up before I start driving. In order to
help others become safer on the road I can not only remind them every
time we’re in the car together, but be an example for them to look
up to.
