In
reducing the number of deaths, drivers ed is important
because it teaches people how to be safe on the road as well as how
to drive in the first place. While yes, you could learn how to drive
in a sense of you know how to use the car without driver’s
education, that doesn’t mean you’ll know everything about how the
different signs and markings on the road work. Drivers ed
teaches you about the uses and importance of each sign and marking on
the road and, assuming everyone follows them, that will reduce the
number of deaths because those signs were put there for that exact
purpose.

Sadly,
there really isn’t a perfect way to reduce deaths from driving
because there are always gonna be those people who won’t abide by
the signs and warnings and do as they please on the road. However,
one thing that would be helpful, assuming it isn’t being done
already, is to teach people about uncommon road types like
roundabouts. While I have never personally been in a roundabout
accident I have heard many stories about people causing or almost
causing accidents in roundabouts, these stories range from stopping
in the middle of the roundabout to people driving in the wrong
direction in the roundabout, which would likely be caused by
assumption that it is just a circular road. While the general driver
may never come across roads like roundabouts, it would be useful to
teach people about them so that if they ever do come across it they
know what to do. Individuals can also take steps to reduce the number
of deaths by doing what they’ve been told to do from the start,
everyone buckles up, driver has their eyes on the road, and put as
many distractions as possible out of the way.

I
have not personally been in a car accident or been in a situation
where the driver was irresponsible but I have seen many instances
where an accident would have occurred if the driver wasn’t paying
attention as well as I have witnessed an accident take place right in
front of me. It takes just one person to end lives by driving but it
also only takes one to save lives while driving so if the general
amount of people drive safely then it would definitely reduce deaths
by driving significantly.
