Today,
95 people will die. This knowledge does not come from some psychic
prediction, instead, it comes from years of statistics. On average,
about 90 people die in driving accidents each day. Why? Any number of
factors can contribute to an accident, and it is impossible to
completely eliminate them all. However, these deaths can be reduced
through proper education and preventative action.
Thorough
driving education has been proven to reduce a person's likelihood to
get into a car accident, let alone die in one. Therefore, a decent
drivers ed is essential to preventing driving deaths. This
makes it absolutely imperative that better, more thorough drivers ed
courses are offered for new drivers. if new drivers are aware of the
statistics and safety precautions surrounding car accidents when they
first start driving, then hopefully they will be able to carry these
practices with them into the future.
As
a new driver in high school, I encounter people driving irresponsibly
everytime I pull into the school parking lot. I can't even count the
number of times that I've been a passenger in one of my friends’
cars while they texted, or paid more attention to switching radio
stations in switching lanes. I believe that, provided with a more
substantial drivers ed experience, all of these are
responsible drivers and their habits could have turned out for the
better.
Personally,
I believe that the best way for me to prevent a driving accident or
Dare is to reduce and or eliminate just . for example, instead of
fussing with the GPS or radio myself, I would instead ask a passenger
to do it for me so that I don't have to take my eyes off of the road.
However, simply helping myself to avoid accidents does nothing to
help other drivers. Therefore I try my best to remind them to make
smarter choices on the road and pay attention when at the wheel.
Because regardless of whether I am a passenger or not, I don’t want
my loved ones, or anybody else’s, to become one of 95.
Imagine
all of the lost hopes, the shattered dreams, and the stories that
will never be completed all because of silly mistakes and tiny
slip-ups that could have easily been avoided. There is far more than
enough negativity, death, and violence going on in this world as it
is. Therefore there is absolutely no reason to contribute to this
number by being careless. Drivers have to remember that when they
drive, they’re not only driving for themselves, they’re also
driving for everyone else that is on the road with them. Educating
those that get behind the wheel is the best bet we have of reducing
the accidents that take the lives of so many people.
