Please Be Safe

Driving has been
one of the most responsible activities I have taken on. I always
thought driving was an entitlement, a right, something I deserved the
moment I entered High School. The reality is, that driving isn’t
something to be taken lightly. It’s a privilege., it is something
special.

As I embraced
driving and demanded my car and keys, I soon learned it was not
everything I asked for. I was scared, I was frightened. Learning to
drive was not the experience I thought it would be. I drove around
the neighborhood under my Mom’s direction, however, the moment she
asked me to pass the streetlights I froze. She soon hired a helper to
get me passed my barriers. I did and was so excited.

I thought I was
on top of the world. A newfound freedom!! At first, I respected this
freedom, then soon I took it for granted. It went to my head. I
started building my confidence and as quickly as I found it, it also
went to my head. I thought I had it under control. It felt great.
Then one day I took a U turn in an unlawful area and lost control,
jumped the curb and hit a pole. I was devastated! I didn’t know
what to do so I called my Mom. I was lucky, very lucky. I was not
broken, just bruised.

I have learned a
very hard lesson the easy way. I’m here now to say, please don’t
learn it the hard way. Don’t get distracted. Don’t drive drunk
and use your common sense. Please, please don’t die. Stay alive and
take driving seriously. It’s a privilege that is well worth
treating right.
