With the many distractions that exist now with cellphones, driver education would seem necessary to the beginner driver. More states need to adopt laws that ban hand-held phones while driving, not only for young drivers but everyone! When teens first get their license, teens should sign a contract stating that they will not use their phones or text while driving. It will be up to the parents to decide what the consequence should be for violating the contract. Stricter laws and agreements are a couple of ways that may reduce the number of unnecessary fatalities caused by distracted driving.
My mom has had two accidents where a distracted driver rear-ended her. Fortunately, we escaped harm, but it was still a scary experience. Ironically, these drivers weren't young drivers, which tells me that young and old are guilty of distracted driving. As a safe driver, I intend to do my part and be present while driving since being in the present is just that - a gift!
