I remember the first time I sat down in the driving seat of my dad’s
car. I was shaking as he was explaining all of the repetitive rules
we hear for the rest of our lives. He made it clear that lack of
attentiveness could lead to accidents including myself and the others
around me. From that point I tried to always be the safest driver I
could be.
Often times in
today’s society, everyone seems to believe there are more important
things they need to be doing instead of paying full attention to the
road and the surroundings. These things include: texting, eating,
doing makeup, etc. All of these distractions can lead to little
errors that can in result, cause a bigger issue on the road. I think
if people minimized phone use and focused on what driving is really
about, it would decrease the amount of accidents that are caused from
lack of attentiveness.
I personally have
the progressive app that tracks my driving. I’ve had it for about a
month and since being forced to drive good it has taught me a lot.
Before hand, I had gotten caught up in all of these negative
distractions and forgot the main reason of safety during driving a
vehicle. Now that I have this app, I am the safest driver I have
been, and I wish everyone had to use an app that would penalize them
for phone use, hard brakes, and reckless behavior while driving.

Although, I have
never been in a wreck as the driver or passenger I have lost close
friends and family to car accidents. In the summer of 2017, my close
friend was driving home from work and came over a hill. When he got
on the other side of it, the car coming the opposite way was directly
in his lane. He couldn’t get over in time and this caused them to
hit head on. He ended up passing away on sight all because someone
wasn’t paying attention to the road and their surroundings. I fully
believe if we started paying more attention to what’s actually
happening in the world around us, instead of being so caught up in
the world happening on social media, we would eliminate so many
accidents and problems that happen on the roads daily. So, stop
texting, stop snap chatting, wait to eat that cheeseburger later, put
both hands on the wheel and focus on the road.
