Although every driver is required to enter and pass a Drivers Ed course, it is not enough to deeply educate drivers of the dangers of driving. As time progresses, drivers become comfortable and adopt a lax view of the rules and regulations of the road. If drivers are unaware of the dangers that driving can pose, they will continue to perform dangerous habits while operating a motor vehicle. Thus, it is imperative to educate drivers of customs they can adopt to reduce the number of driving-related deaths. Consequently, drivers need repetitive education on how to operate a motor vehicle safely, which could be facilitated by the more frequent renewal of driving licenses. In addition, drivers should be required to enroll in and pass a defensive driving course to understand how to protect themselves while others drive recklessly. Thankfully, I have never found myself in a serious car accident, as a result of reckless driving or otherwise. However, I have been in a vehicle in which family members or friends have driven irresponsibly. Not wearing a seatbelt, utilizing a cellular telephone, and blasting music to an unreasonable high volume are all poor driving habits that I have witnessed. I have even conducted a couple of those irresponsible actions. To drive safer, I must acknowledge and rectify my bad driving habits, but I must also fearlessly inform others of their bad driving habits. I must also admit and recognize the dangers of reckless driving habits to further deter us from continuing bad motor vehicle practices. Lastly, I must understand the benefits of driving safely to reinforce good driving habits.
