Driving is a great privilege the country gives young adults since the age of 16 but also plants a large responsibility even on the eldest of drivers. As a teen driver, I haven’t had much experience on the road but I do enjoy driving. Just like myself, there are many drivers that are precautious yet sometimes get distracted behind the wheel. Getting distracted while driving can be initiated by obvious examples such as texting, tweeting, or changing music, or a less obvious example like turning to talk to friends or simply playing the music so loudly that you cannot hear other vehicles. However, these actions decided by the driver can be prevented.
When it comes to my personal driving, I can admit I have some bad habits when I drive. For instance, my phone has to be connected to my car before I even drive off, so that means there is always music playing which can be perceived as unsafe driving. Even though music is a part of my driving I make sure it is never too loud and I am always checking my surroundings by looking at all the mirrors, keeping my two hands on the wheel, one foot placed on the ground while the other is on the gas ready for any situation I might need to react. The reason I continue to be a safe driver is because I know when I get behind the wheel, I am not only responsible for my life; a young successful dreamer but also the other people in my car or drivers on the road with their own hopes and dreams.
Unfortunately, not all drivers have the same mind set as myself, which is why safe driving should be promoted within ourselves. It is sad that we are putting our lives at risk every time we are on the road but it is our responsibility and privilege to execute being safe drivers. Just like everything, when we drive we become responsible for our own decisions and actions, which can ultimately lead to a positive or negative outcome; which is why we should always drive with a safe mentality to save ourselves but most importantly others.
