Drivers’ education is imperative when it comes to young drivers learning the ways of the road, when new and seasoned drivers can reflect on the rules of the road it helps in decreasing the amount of car related deaths. However, I think that driver’s education should be taught not only when you are starting to drive but when you are a few years into driving to help reduce the risk of accident deaths. Moreover, education programs that are centered around driving emphasize the importance of following traffic laws and the risk of not. These programs appeal to younger drivers by talking about reckless driving, like speeding, drinking, and driving, and texting while driving. Because of these efforts it increases responsible driving methods, which help in the overall decrease of deaths from driving. Additionally, driving programs help reduce road rage and overly aggressive driving by making sure the learners understand the importance of patience and courteous behavior. Steps that should be taken when it comes to making sure that driving deaths are low are stricter enforcement when it comes to traffic laws, better use of technology, improving how the roads are built and maintained, and more public awareness. Having more of a reinforcement when it comes to speeding, distracted driving, and driving under the influence would help significantly in reducing driver deaths because of instead of a ticket and a fine, there should be an automatic sentencing of at least 30 days of license suspension and the person would have to watch driver course videos. There should also be a better use of technology when it comes to drivers’ education and in cars. When I was learning to drive, I remember seeing the use of technology with real life scenarios when having to drive into a passing lane or getting used to being aware of everything you will see when driving. But it would also be beneficial I the make up of cars. Most cars today have some type of technology installed in them to help with parallel parking and just seeing what is behind the car. While these methods are great there should be a mandate for cars to have sensors or alerts that tell the driver when they are going too fast, there was a collision on the road, or anything that would put them at risk for death. Mechanisms like this would significantly reduce the chances of accidents. Road maintenance and structural security is another way to prevent and reduce accidents. When there are potholes and bumps in the road it can cause for sudden movements from cars going between lanes, flat tires, damage to cars that causes for the driver to become worried about their car and then become distracted and not pay attention to what’s going on the road. Having more public awareness when it comes to safe driving and road laws would help significantly. There are signs up, but we need to have more ads either on the radio, television, or social media apps. I know from being in high school they held a play every year about how distracted driving can lead to death and uncertain times in your life, and this play made a very big impact on me and other new driers because we saw, though it was fake, a simulation of a car crash, death, and the rippling effect unsafe driving can have on a family or even a community. When I was in my first year of college, I remember getting a call about a close friend of mine, Charolette, was seriously hurt from teen and drunk driving. I remember my universe stopped and it felt like I was being held back by a hand, and it would not let me move. When my mother called me told me that Charolette was I the hospital, I remember feeling so angry because I couldn’t be there to see if she was okay, I could only call and pray that she made it out in a better condition that how she went in. I was angrier at who was in the other car, I know that Charolette would never drink and drive, she was always scared of what would happen, but when I found out that someone from a near by town, Alex, was drinking and driving that caused Charolette to be in the hospital. I would call my mom nonstop and ask if he were going to face some type of judge for what he did and all she could tell me “He just has to pay a fine.” I was so angry about him only having to pay a fine and not faced any other charges was so confusing and infuriating a friend and has the first ripple when Charolette was hurt. Because of this, that I can do to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else is to avoid distractions, turn off my phone or put it in driving mode while I am on the road. Make sure my seat belt is on, and the other passengers have theirs on as well. And the last thing I can do is to maintain my vehicle, making sure that my brakes, tires, and engine are in good condition so that it can reduce any dangers that could happen on the road.
