As a teenager I have been driving on the road for almost a year and a half I have taken on the responsibility of driving and feel as though I am a pretty safe driver. I feel confident on the road and I owe that to my drivers ed course I feel like my drivers ed course taught me a lot about the rules of the road and the consequences that come with distracted driving. Drivers ed taught automobile basics and how to drive safely and responsibly. But even though teens are required to take a drivers ed course accidents on the road account for nearly one half of all teenage deaths. So, what are some steps we can do to reduce those numbers? Well for one I know a lot of us love to be on our phones but it’s not always the safest to do while driving whether it’s changing the music calling or texting, we should all try to stay off our phones while driving. One time I was in the car with my friends and the adult present was driving when all of a sudden, we felt a bump behind us. We stop the car and the adult looks back and the girls was on her phone we all ended up fine, but the situation could have been a lot worse just because someone in the other car was on their phone. Another distraction can be friends in the car as a teen we are only legally allowed to drive with one other underaged passenger in the car. For our safety we should try to limit the amount of people we have in the car at a time. Another way we can reduce distracted driving is to not eat in the car. Eating in the car may not seem that bad but think of all the times you’re not paying attention to the road while you’re eating. I feel like if we take these steps to limit the distractions we face while driving we can reduce numbers of deaths on the road. Some steps I will personally take will be to not text and drive to not have a lot of people in the car and wait till I’m at my destination to eat instead of eating on the road.
