Driving is more dangerous and deadly for our nation than being involved in combat, and highlights the serious consequences of being negligent on the road. Thus, to try and prevent more accidents from occurring and to protect oneself, being safe and educated about the road is a great way to start.

Taking a drivers ed course is viewed as important and knowledgeable about being behind the wheel and what one can do to keep safe and be an alert driver. It is very important in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving.

Young drivers who don’t take this course are more likely to be issued a traffic ticket, be involved in a fatal or injury accident, and likely to be in an accident. This course teaches drivers to obey traffic laws, be predictable, avoid distractions, drive rested, and not to drink alcoholic beverages or take any drugs. These are some of the steps that can be taken towards reducing the number of deaths. Also, no matter the reason, do not speed. Drive within the speed limit and if broken, can be a hazard. According to a website, exceeding a posted speed limit means you have elected to drive faster than was intended for that road, putting others at risk, all while consuming more fuel. The faster you go, the less reaction time you have and the more skills are necessary to avoid an accident. As the speed climbs, so do braking distances and all other force measures that can lead to catastrophic collisions and rollovers.

I have never been in a car accident but have seen my family members drive in an unsafe manner. Mom usually checks her phone or drinks tea while her eyes are off the road for mere seconds and the car would sway from side to side. Alas, there are many ways I can prevent and also help others prevent unsafe driving. I can start by taking a pre-licensing course and learn about what not to do and the consequences that come with the action as well as have a conversation with mom about the reasons why it is unsafe to be distracted while driving.
