Are you tired of slowing down
in traffic because of all the wrecks? Drivers need to pay attention
to the road and drive responsibly.

statistics complied by the Department of Transportation, 3,477 people
died and another 319,000 were injured due to texting and driving
(www.edgarsnyder.com). In order to stay safe, drivers need their eyes
on the road, their hands on the wheel, and their minds on driving. No
more texting and driving, passing while going up a hill, or even not
stopping at red lights. 137,000 persons sustained red-light related
injuries in 2015. Drivers weren’t the only victims, Pedestrians and
bicyclists also sustained injuries; some even lost their lives
(www.autoaccident.com). In 2017, speeding was a contributing factor
in 26 percent of all traffic fatalities. For more than two decades,
speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor
vehicle fatalities. As a result, personal injuries are worse in car
accidents at high speeds. In 1999, speeding was a contributing factor
in 30 percent of all fatal crashes, and 12,628 lives were lost in
speeding-related crashes. Speeding killed 9,378 people in 2018
(www.nhtsa.gov).
Obviously, people shouldn’t
drive after drinking at all. It’s dangerous, and not the smartest
thing to do. In 2016, 10,497 people died in alcohol-impaired driving
crashes, accounting for 28 percent of all traffic-related deaths in
the United States. Of the 1,233 traffic deaths among children ages 0
to 14 years in 2016, 214 involved an alcohol-impaired driver. Over 50
percent of car accidents are caused by alcohol impaired drivers.
Sixty-five percent of all fatal single car crashes are alcohol
related, and 36 percent of all adult pedestrian accidents are alcohol
related. It is estimated that 15,913 road accidents occur every day
in the U.S (www.cdc.gov).
People need to focus on the
road rather than their phones and other things going on around them.
Too many people are getting hurt because people don’t know how to
drive properly.
