Majority of people have watched a tragic car accident occur in a movie on their TV screen while comfortably sitting on their couch, wrapped in a blanket and eating popcorn. However, there are people that have actually experienced this, and have even lost loved ones due to it. Car accidents are real. Car accidents can kill. Driver’s education is more important today than it has ever been, and the people of America must understand the importance of it.
Driver’s education teaches drivers every lesson you need to know to prepare for the road. From basic turning signals to the dangers of texting while driving, each and every lesson can save a life. The purpose of driver’s education is to educate new and even current drivers on the risks of driving. The more educated people are on this topic, the less dangerous drivers remain on the roads, and one more accident avoided. There are several ways to achieve a better driver’s education, even during COVID-19. Online websites are incredibly helpful at this time, such as Drive Safely, DriversEd.com, and so many more. A physical, more hands on education can be found through driving academies such as Defensive Driving. Ultimately, there are so many different ways to improve one’s education on the road, and by taking the time to improve your knowledge, you are also helping save lives.
A few months ago, my brother was in a severe car accident. He fell victim to a careless driver who ran a red light, and thankfully left the crash with only some cuts, bruises, and a sprained wrist. Not everybody is as lucky as my brother to have been able to walk away from that crash without severe injuries. His crash completely changed my family's mindset regarding cars. We realized that we need to be aware and prepared for anything at all times while in the driver’s seat. Sadly, we cannot always trust others to act safely, but we can trust ourselves to do our part and drive cautiously.
As a member of a strong community, it is my responsibility to think and act for the common good, and that includes driving. Too many innocent lives are lost due to carelessness on the road, and that is why I strongly believe in the importance of driver’s education. I am a new driver, as I received my license less than a year ago. After I earned my permit, my parents enrolled me in the Defensive Driving Academy. I took several two hour classes, and I learned about the physical car, driver’s safety, and more about the meaning of signs. These classes absolutely improved my knowledge of the road, and almost a year later I still remember every lesson I was taught. Considering how often people drive and the number of lives lost because of it, more effort should be put into emphasizing the importance of driver’s education.
