Driving is the most basic and integral part of our livelihood. When you start driving, you are taking that one step to adulthood. However, driving can be potentially dangerous if you make the wrong decisions. There are so many fatal accidents due to people making dumb decisions when driving. This is why driver education is really important and people need to take heed of the lessons. Attending a driver's education, you learn the basics of driver safety and decrease the likelihood of getting into car crashes. Even if you are an experienced driver, everyone has to be careful when they are on the road. When it comes to the age group at higher risk of getting into car accidents, teens face a greater risk due to their inexperience. Since teenagers are usually new drivers, they are not familiar with recognizing hazards and their driving would need work. This is another factor to consider when discussing the importance of driver education. As much as learning about driving safety is good, experience can be a great teacher. By getting real hands-on experience with driving, new drivers will be able to fully understand driving safety.
The best way to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to take steps to learn the basic rules of driving safety. These steps include putting your seatbelt on, adjusting your mirrors, and always using your turning signals. These are the basic when it comes to driving that everyone should know and follow. Going over the basic precautions before driving will help reduce the chances of car accidents. Especially for new drivers since they need to be the most cautious on the road. Another step to take is to follow traffic laws. Such examples as obeying traffic lights and obeying the speed limits. This is something we all know, but it bears repeating that drinking while driving is never ok, as well as using drugs. To be honest, I don’t respect anyone who drinks while driving because that shows their irresponsibility. You are putting yourself and others on the road at risk of car accidents if you decide for some reason to drink alcoholic beverages. My sentiments are the same when it comes to drug use as well. For new drivers, it would be best to limit night-time drives.
I remember two incidents where both my parents experienced car accidents. Luckily these accidents were not life-threatening. The worst these car accidents have were just parts of the car were broken off and that was it. The first instance was back in Oakland. This was a long time ago, I was like 10 when this happened. During a car trip, there was a car that hit one of my dad’s rearview mirrors. It was a reckless driver who clearly did not respect the road. The worst part about it is that we didn’t find the driver, so it might have been a hit-and-run. I was thankful that only the rearview mirror was the only thing that happened that day. Another car accident happened when my mom was driving me to get food to eat and she ran into another car. She wasn’t paying attention to the road that day which led to the accident. Luckily, the other car only suffered a dent, and he and my mom went through the whole procedure with car insurance and stuff. I count myself and my family lucky that these two accidents weren’t life-threatening. However, I remember the news about a former classmate of mine from high school who tragically lost his life due to a car crash. I would say our relationship was that as classmates who see each other once in a while and have good chat. I don’t know the full details about how it happened, but my classmate was driving during the night and took the wrong turn on a highway. I remember that my classmate has experience with driving, so it was really unfortunate that this happened to him.
I received my driver's license a year ago so I’m still a fairly new driver. I’m making sure to follow the traffic laws. I also make sure to follow the speed limit and go at my own pace. If there are some steps I can take in order to be a safer driver is to follow safety rules before driving. I will make sure to fasten my seatbelt and check my mirrors so I can be aware of my surroundings. Although I’m still a novice at driving, my advice for others is to make sure to follow traffic rules and watch your speed when driving. Be aware of your surroundings and be smart when you are driving.
