However, we shouldn't overlook these important guidelines, as they help keep everyone safe from fatal car accidents. Reminding ourselves and others of these regulations can save countless lives. When older drivers become stuck in their habits, they may develop driving practices that may not be safe for themselves or others. Implementing mandatory refresher courses for drivers every five years could help them update their skills and remember important rules. Additionally, mandatory vehicle inspections every three years would ensure that cars are up-to-date and safe to drive on the road. Other ways to prevent accidents include locking cell phones while driving. Phones should have sensors that detect when a person is driving and automatically lock for the safety of the driver. This feature should be mandatory. Furthermore, offering anger management and road rage classes for individuals who exhibit these behaviors could be beneficial, as road rage and aggressive driving can have serious consequences for the driver and those around them.
Our elders and older adults have been driving for a long time, which means they have developed their driving styles. However, these styles may not always be the safest. For example, in my family, some members often talk and text while driving, despite reminding me that this is not the correct or safest way to drive. Although my family is made up of very experienced drivers, that does not mean they haven't experienced their fair share of serious car accidents. For instance, my uncle was involved in a terrible car accident that almost resulted in the permanent loss of his leg. It was a tough and frightening time for our family, as we feared we might lose him. Fortunately, he is now recovering well and has a fully functional leg. It has impacted his life but now he continues to thrive.We were so thankful for his well-being and health.
As a new driver, I have the advantage of not having developed any bad habits yet. This presents a unique opportunity for me to focus on becoming a safe and attentive driver in the future. One of the most important aspects of safe driving is being aware of my surroundings. It’s crucial to recognize that not every driver on the road shares the same level of caution and responsibility. For instance, texting while driving is one of the leading causes of accidents among teenagers; this statistic is alarming and serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by distracted driving.
To combat this temptation, I plan to lock my phone while driving, ensuring that I won't be tempted to check messages or notifications. In addition to this, I will make a conscious effort to eliminate other distractions within my vehicle. I will avoid playing loud music, silencing any distractions from alerts, and steering clear of situations where I have more than one passenger in the car. All of these measures will help me maintain focus on the road ahead.
