Driving can be fun and enjoyable, when it is done, but what happens when the rules are not being followed as it should?
The majority of people often get scared to get on the road and drive, just because they are scared of what can happen, but what if this problem can be fixed?
We can work together to make sure that everyone comes together, follows and applies these steps the right way. Well, there’s one ground rule actually, and that is no cellphone use while driving. The National Safety Council reports that cellphone use while driving leads to an average of 1.6 million crashes each year, and nearly 390,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving. This statistic shows that there are more deaths, injuries, and accidents that occur when driving, and that’s the cause of cellphone use while driving. This fact is only in the United States.
Also, 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving ( The National Safety Council ). Meaning that the majority of car crashes are the results of texting and cellphone use while driving. This number will decrease if we make the effort to not use phones, or any device that can cause loss of focus, under any circumstances.
Under this one ground rule, there are steps to take for safety. These steps are:
1. Putting your phone on driving mode or airplane mode, or even turning it off completely for those that are addicted to their cellphones, so that there’s no temptation on using it or any distractions for social media. Stop and park the car on the side if the matter is urgent. Download an app that can monitor the time while driving if needed.
2. Make sure your phone is out of your reach. This will help not pick up the phone because you will be too busy focusing on the road. Also, make sure your friends or any relatives are aware that you’re behind the wheel.
3. For those who wear glasses, or any kind of contacts, make sure you have your glasses or contacts while driving, especially on sunny days.
4. The fourth one is the most important. Be conscious and know that the minute you decide to use that cellphone while behind the wheels, you are automatically putting, not just yourself, but also the lives of others in danger as well. Just keep that in mind.
Driving can be fun, and definitely enjoyable. What if we could make it even more fun and enjoyable? It’s simple, just follow this rule and these steps. Just remember this: Failure to use this rule the right way and not following these steps will result in an increase in the number of accidents, or worse the increasing rate of deaths from car accidents. Let us follow these rules and provide a safer environment and safer roads for everyone, and make driving safe again. Just remember, safety for all.
