With texting and driving many people do not see the damage they can
cause. They often do not see bicyclists, pedestrians, and other cars.
This increases the chance of accidents and casualties. I have nearly
been in numerous accidents myself from people texting and driving
while I’m on my bicycle. I have had to swerve or move out of the
way as the people were busy texting or on their phones rather than
paying attention to the road. I have not actually seen any accidents
happen but I have heard plenty of stories of such happening to people
that I personally know. As for how to fix said problem, laws could be
put in place that get stricter over a set amount of years. Also,
phones could be designed so that when in motion over a certain speed
they are locked down and can not be used except for emergency
situations. This would mean that it would still be able to contact
911 but not actually text or call normally.
