Have
you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen your
friends or family members driving irresponsibly?

In
2018 our life changed for the worse, we received a call from my aunt
stating my cousin Jordan was in an accident and everyone should rush
to the emergency room. I felt the tremble in my mom voice as she
gathered us together. We arrived at the hospital to find him listed
as (DOA) by the ambulance. He was headed to college in the Fall and
had a great future ahead of him. We had the same goals become the 1st
African American Engineers in our Community. Texting while driving
leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. A simple on my way, be right
there, or I love you could be the last text you ever send. He was hit
from the side and didn’t see the other driver coming he ran the
light while texting and this changed my family life forever.

I’m
a new driver just getting my license and I’m terrified to do early
morning commutes. You have the I’m running late so let me add
make-up in the car drivers, ride your bumper drivers, I hate traffic
drivers, on the phone drivers, and people just not paying attention
to their surrounding drivers. I’ve taken the “it could wait
pledge” because my life is worth much more than a text or a social
media update. According to AAA poll ,94% of teen drivers acknowledge
the dangers of texting and driving, but 35% admitted to doing it
anyway. How could people be so, carless and take our love ones away
knowing that it would tear family’s heart apart? I ask myself What
can we do to change this? How can I be an influencer and what would
make the world value life and not electronics?
