It’s like riding a bike. It is intimidating at first, and then there might be some accidents. But once you get the hang of it, it is a beautiful experience and makes you want to explore the unknown. The same goes for driving. Many people start to learn to drive as early as 15 years and as late as 60 years or later. While it is very essential and can be a experience, it is important to stay safe and practice good driving habits.
As a teenager, I get the excitement and trill of learning how to drive. I get to visit my friends, go to my favorite fast food places, and go to recreational places without bugging my mom to take me. However, one does not know the rules and laws of the road when they are beginning to drive: this is when drivers education comes in handy. Drivers education helps educate young drivers all the necessary information of the road before they get behind the wheel. They teach these eager students the meaning of signs, the different types of street lines, and about precaution behind the wheel. While doing this, they reduce the change of getting themselves and others in danger or even worse, a death situation. While Drivers Ed. is a great first step to start teacher others to stay safe, there still needs to be more awareness to reduce the number of accidents on the roads. Just how one needs to pay for insurance once a month, there should also be monthly check- ins for drivers safety and laws to make sure every driver is caught up with all the recent rules and regulations.
As one that has taken driver education classes, I can confidently say that I do feel safer whenever I am on the road and avoid accidents as possible; however, while the chances of get into an accident are low, they are never zero. Recently, last month I was in a car accident. I was driving in very busy street during rush hour with my mom and two sisters in the passengers seat when out of nowhere, a car hit us from the side for distracted driving. As I remember vividly, everything around me turn silent. I saw the lady on the other car and saw the fear on her face. Then, im guessing from the impact, she got frightened and ended up crashing even worse into a light post. While I did not feel any fear myslef, but the moment I saw my sisters tears running down from her face, I got a feeling of flight-or-fight. I wanted to protect them even more and wanted them to get all the help they needed. When the police arrived, they took care of the situation and attended us. While my case was not that serious and no major damages where made, the other lady suffered a greader loss. Her car was completely wrecked, she had a few physical injuries, and was in complete shock. If it wasn’t for my knowledge from drivers ed. class, I feel like the accident would of been imaculate.
While I make sure I do my part to be a safe driver such as double checking the roads, keeping good maintenance of my vehicle, and keeping my eyes on the road while being aware of my surroundings. Safe driving should be one of the main concerns to keep everyone on the road safe.
