There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the risks of a fatal car crash. The first step starts long before turning the vehicle on. Drivers should keep their cars in great condition; this applies to the interior and exterior of the car. They should make sure the oil and fluid levels are at the correct operating levels. A key step is to protect yourself and others who are in your vehicle. A way to do that is to always check to see if everyone, including yourself, is wearing a seatbelt. Many people who die in car crashes could have survived had they simply worn a seatbelt. Another step is to always anticipate the actions of other drivers: It is better to be prepared than surprised.
Lastly, “eliminate all distractions when driving.” Everyone should know and be aware of the things that are distracting and should make it a priority to eliminate those things. There are many more steps that could be taken but these were just a few that I chose to mention.
Fortunately, I have never been in a car accident and I am cautious while driving. However, I have many friends who drive irresponsibly and believe they have enough experience to handle a car in all terrains and situations, which is dangerous. Many of them drive while using cellular devices and while eating food. There are so many distractions that I have seen and believe should be fixed to maintain the safety of all drivers on the road.
When I am driving I will always remember to check the seatbelt of my passengers as well as my own seatbelt. I will eliminate all distractions and be aware of my surroundings, which in turn will allow me to predict the next move of others on the road. I hope that Driver's Education is taken more seriously in the future and if we all work together, we can greatly reduce the number of fatalities. I will do my part by spreading awareness and by practicing safe driving habits.
