Driver's education is crucial for protecting the lives of people on the roads. Nearly, 43,000 people die each year in the United states from fatal crashes. Many of these accidents happen due to bad decisions made by drivers. Drivers education teaches new drivers the rules of the road and how to follow them. It also teaches them the consequences that come with making poor choices. It is important for every driver to be educated before driving on the roads. This will reduce accidents and keep the roads safe.
When I went to driving school, I remember feeling really nervous about being the one behind the wheel. I am the youngest in my family so usually, everyone else drove me around. Getting my drivers license was a huge milestone for me, and I took all steps seriously. I highly recommend others do the same. When I passed my driving test, I felt relieved and thankful for having the chance to get the education I needed to stay safe on the roads. I would not be the skilled driver I am right now without attending drivers education. Also, in the two years I've had my license, I haven't been in any accidents, and I owe a lot of that to my driving instructor for teaching me the rules of the road. I believe that without getting that education, I wouldn't be a safe driver and could be a danger to pedestrians and other drivers.
In my sophomore year of high school, I was coming home from a friend's house when I saw police lights flashing and loud sirens blaring on the street across from my house. I was instantly worried because there was a med flight helicopter above. I rushed to my house, told my parents, and turned on the news but saw nothing. The next day I found out it was three students from my school who were driving intoxicated and came into a head on collision with an older woman. Luckily everyone survived but the woman was in critical condition. Experiencing something like this with people I know made me realize that driving under the influence not only endangers your own life but also puts everyone around you at risk because of your poor choices.
It is also so important to have conversations with loved ones about the dangers of driving under the influence. This can make teenagers more mindful of their actions. Growing up my parents constantly told me to never get into a car with an intoxicated driver. They shared numerous stories about people who lost their lives due to drunk driving. These discussions brought major awareness of the importance of safety, and it's something that more families should regularly discuss with their children. This will help lower the rates of DUI incidents and deaths caused by drunk driving.
When I was younger, my family and I were returning from lunch. While driving on the highway, we saw a woman lying on the side of the road and a motorcycle on the freeway. As traffic slowed, I looked to my right and saw a man, bloody and split in half between the guardrail. My family was in shock. We were all upset for a while, trying to process what we had just seen. It was a very traumatic moment for everyone. Later, we learned that the man had been making reckless decisions by weaving through traffic, which led to his death. Luckily, the woman survived because she had a backpack on, which ended up saving her life. Having an experience like this made me realize that I will never get in a vehicle with a dangerous driver or drive recklessly for fun, because it can lead to serious consequences.
There are many steps people can take to ensure everyone's safety on the road, like wearing your seatbelt, driving within the speed limit, avoiding distractions, and using your signals. These precautions can significantly reduce the chances of getting into an accident. Also, being cautious on the road is extremely important because many animals crossing can easily get hit if you're not paying attention. This can cause damage to your vehicle or swerving into other cars. Additionally, children can unexpectedly run into the streets, which we need to be mindful of.
In conclusion, taking drivers education, being careful, and making wise choices are all key elements that ensure road safety and lower the number of car accidents each year. Witnessing and hearing about the terrible incidents caused by people making careless decisions with vehicles has motivated me to always be a cautious and careful driver and to discourage others from driving recklessly.
