The Cost of Driving Reckless

When getting your license, it is important to know that you are responsible for not only your own life, but everyone else's too. When driving, you have to be prepared for anything. You are not the only one on the road. Other people could be driving recklessly, so you have to drive with the knowledge that you could be the safest driver, but others might be anything but that.

Taking drivers ed not only is required, but can improve your safety on the road. The more education you have on drivers safety and driving in general, the safer you will be on the road. Driver education doesn’t just help you, it helps others too. You keep others safe while being safe yourself. The more you know about driving, the safer you will drive, if we have more safe drivers on the road it could decrease the number of car related deaths.

In order to reduce the number of deaths, there are steps that are probably known by everyone. By obeying road signs like stop signs, road work signs, and others, you are one step closer to not putting yourself and others at risk. One of the biggest steps is watching your speed. When you’re going the right speed, you will have better reaction time if someone was to pull out in front of you or slam on their brakes. You can also avoid a large ticket, which sounds like a great idea. Also, staying off your phone while driving, and putting all your focus on the road.

There are a lot of people that don’t think before they make decisions on the road. For example, when I was little, my sister, my aunt and I were coming back from a movie. She was just about to drop me off at my house, when a woman didn’t stop at a stop sign and pulled out right in front of us, resulting in us slamming right into the side of her car. No one was injured, but if we were going any faster it could’ve been different. She didn’t think about what could’ve happened, she was looking at her phone and probably thinking “this isn’t a common road no one is coming.” But you have to think and focus while on the road, and don’t get in a rush because you could injure someone.

When I first got my license, I would constantly change the music, this resulted in me hitting a mailbox and losing a side mirror. Now, when I am driving, I put on a playlist I like and set my phone down. I also tended to go my own speed and stay too close to people in front of me because they “weren’t going fast enough.” After almost rear-ending people multiple times, I have learned that it’s better to be late to things then putting myself and others in danger. Always stay focused on the road, nothing is more important than your life.
