Prompt One: “What is the
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a
result of driving?”
The impact Drivers
Education Has on Car Related Deaths
Drivers ed is a
helpful class with many benefits. I personally have taken the course
this year. It is a program that consists of driving and also a
lecture class. It not only provides knowledge of the rules of
driving, but it also includes time behind the wheel with a licensed
driving instructor. This dual-method learning expands a developing
driver's abilities and shows benefits. A study found on
Idrivesafely.com conducted research comparing car accident rates
among drivers that had completed the course against people who did
not take Drivers ed classes. The results showed that "The
drivers who had taken a drivers ed course were involved in fewer
crashes: 11.1% of the drivers ed group, as opposed to 12.9% of those
who hadn't taken a course, had been involved in a crash"
(Idrivesafely.com). A reduction in car accidents was found among the
people that completed their Drivers ed course, as opposed to
those who did not attend the classes. This decrease in car accidents
directly impacts the number of deaths due to irresponsible driving.
It leads to the conclusion that better education on the skills of
driving undoubtedly correlates with the number of accidental deaths
due to driving in the first place!
