Knowing the rules of the road is important for both yourself and other people driving on the road. One wrong turn, move, or signal could lead to an event that could devastate or change someone’s life forever. Driving is a huge responsibility that should never be taken lightly.
Kids my age will drive recklessly to seem “cool,” but a lot of them don’t understand the danger of this. It is very inconsiderate of others in the car or on the road. Sadly, my uncle was once in a car with someone who was not driving responsibly, and they got into a crash that took my uncle’s life. The driver, on the other hand, survived. He still can’t look any of our family in the eyes, and it’s been many, many years. This is an example of how one wrong move can devastate a life and haunt the person responsible forever.
A few rules could be added to prevent reckless drivers and deaths on the road. One is to require Driver’s Education for all ages. Whether you’re 16 or 70, I think it should be required for everyone, just to ensure that they know the rules. Another rules is to have people take a driver’s test every time they have to renew their license. People who have had their licenses for years tend to become more and more careless as they get older. They might not remember the rules, or as they become more comfortable with driving, they may start to care less about the quality of their driving. Taking a driver’s test every time they renew their license will keep the rules fresher in their minds, and keep them from driving as carelessly as some do now.
Everyone is guilty of making mistakes on the road occasionally. Since I am a fairly new driver, I have made plenty of those. I like to learn from these mistakes, though, so I know not to do them again, and this helps me become a safer and more educated driver. If we all stop our bad habits on the road, remember the rules, and learn to be better drivers this will lead to sounder and less stressful driving for everyone.
