The importance of driver education is, for its purpose, to teach us the dos and don’ts on what to do when you behind the wheel. Depending on the person and age for the state, learning how to drive is a big step to adulthood. It gives us responsibility, freedom and education for understanding what it means to drive. From knowing the updated laws of driving, the history of driving and knowing what is in the vehicles of your choosing can give you insight into the basics of driving. Regardless of if it’s for a job or wanting to get around, you need to soak in the picture. Driving, if not careful, could leave to consequences. Needing to know the importance of driver education to reduce car accidents is beneficial. If not, the number will only increase in the future years.
The steps to take to help reduce the number of deaths is to put driver education in the school system. From middle school to college, it can teach us the basics on how to drive, what to do when you behind the wheel, and knowing what to do if you see or hear something is wrong with the vehicle. We can also learn on how to prevent car accidents. We also need to understand that if its our fault we need to hold responsibility. If it’s the other persons fault, then it should be required to know what steps it needed to take for legal reasons. Just knowing all this from most of the school years can help kids/adults understand and get clarity for the purpose and consequences when it’s time to learn how to drive.
I sadly have been in a car accident. I was in the car with my college friend. She was driving us to her waxing appointment near where I live. By my part, we have a railroad track where a train usually comes two to three times a month to do deliveries. Near the track, we have two street ways. Around the middle of the way, there is a place where there is a sign that says U-turn. She saw it and was about to do a U-Turn to go to the other street. When she did, this car was trying to speed past us, which resulted in them hitting us. We weren’t badly injured thankfully. My friends knee popped out of place, but she popped it back in. While due to the sudden crash and worried she was badly hurt, I ended up having a panic attack. She called the police while I called my mom to let her know what happened. Long story short, thankfully my friend was ok as we both left while the police was getting our statement along with the other drivers. Which was found out, he was disabled and was on his phone while he was driving when he shouldn’t have. My grandmother to be frank is a fast driver and tends to take harsh turns. Despite all the bumps in her car to the tickets, she doesn’t change her driving ways. Thankfully she never caused an accident, but I feel she needs to get a refresher on the driving laws.
The steps I would take personally is one, do not drive at night unless its necessary. Usually, accidents happen at night due to people are not paying attention, don’t have their lights on or if they are walking, they shouldn’t be wearing dark clothes so they could be seen. Two, I wouldn’t drive is I’m tired/ sleep deprived. Being tired behind the wheel is as worse as if your drunk behind the wheel. Your self-consciousness isn’t as sharp and/or on point. The same goes for your reflexes and eyes. Due to not sleeping, your brain won’t trigger the part of your brain see that your about to hit something or someone. Finally, I would keep up do date on the laws and regulations. I understand sometimes they would either rewrite or improve some laws to make driving safer. So, I would try my best to give myself a reminder to refresh myself on the laws and rules for driving. How I would help others is to make sure they are following the laws and rules themselves to the best for their abilities. I know I can’t make the change how they drive nor the way they want to drive. I just hope they won’t do drive reckless no irresponsible.
