Many steps should be done to reduce the number of deaths caused by driving. It can start as soon as getting in the car by putting on a seatbelt. Steps that can be done to reduce deaths cause by driving are obeying speed limits, paying attention, not running traffic lights, obey traffic signals, signs and by not using phones while driving. Avoiding phone use includes talking on the phone, texting and looking at the phone. If the phone is used for directions, it should be used handsfree and using the speaker. When there is bad weather, no one should be on the road unless they absolutely have to or is an emergency situation. A driver should be alert, avoid distractions such as talking, playing around and avoiding arguments. Drives shouldn’t drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol is essential to avoiding accidents that can reduce deaths. It is also important to take your vehicle for inspections can making sure it is operating properly which includes the tires. A person can also do their own checks, such as looking at the tires, checking the tire pressure and making sure all lights and signal lists are working. These steps can be done to reduce the number of driving related deaths.
I have never been in a car accident or seen friends or family member drive irresponsibly. I do know of family members and friends who have been in car accidents. Some of the accidents were caused by driving irresponsibly and by the other driver being at fault. When one has an accident, I am sure it can be traumatic, especially if there are injuries damage to a vehicle. One of my friends was recently in an accident, and she doesn’t currently have a vehicle because she doesn’t have the money to get her car fixed. Since I’ve been driving my mother has stressed the importance of having car insurance; how it can go up if I cause an accident. It can be expensive when one has an accident, due to hospital bills if injured, cost of a rental car, down payment for another car or having to pay a deductible. I also have friends that have had their car totaled but the most important fact is that no one was seriously hurt.
Steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver are to pay attention, focus, avoiding distractions such as my cell phone and playing around with passengers. Periodically checking the tire pressure and condition of the tires, the oil and other fluids in the vehicle. Make sure all mirrors are adjusted and check for blind spots when driving. Don’t drive when under the influence of alcohol, medication and not driving while being tired to remain alert. I can leave early, so I am not rushing to get to my destination. When I’m driving, making sure I yield the right of a way to other drivers, leaving space between my car and other cars. Turn on my headlights when needed, especially when it is raining. Don’t speed and always mare sure to where my seatbelt, be alert and watch out for other drivers and objects in the road and accidents. I can help others become safer on the road by telling them to always wear a seatbelt, pay attention to traffic signals, never text while driving, be alert, don’t speed and be patient.
