The steps that can be taken to reduce these numbers would be to obey the laws, don’t be texting and driving, don’t drink and drive, and avoid distractions while driving, these simple steps would reduce the number of deaths that happen. Staying in your lane is a good step because to be a defensive driver you have to let other drivers go ahead of you and not try to fight for your position in traffic and also avoid weaving and cutting others off by staying in your lane. Another step is to drive hands on the wheel because with two hands on the wheel it allows you to have more control over the car if an accident was to happen. Also, don’t drive when you are tired, when you are tired your reaction time is not as good as it is when you are awake and when you are driving when you are tired you are likely to put yourself in a bad situation without even noticing it. Another step is to always wear your seat belt, a study showed that 63 percent of people who have died in car accidents had not had on their seat belt. The reason you want to wear your seat belt is because they are there to protect you and it also protects your body because it doesn’t allow you to move your body forward far and this is a big step on how to prevent car accidents. Avoid drinking and driving because when you drink and drive it can make you not have the right judgments and it makes your alertness go down, so you shouldn’t drink and drive so it could help you remain alert when you are driving on the road. Another big step is to not speed because sometimes speeding can cause you and others to get into accidents and when you speed you are most likely not paying attention to the things around you and that can cause you to swerve into the other lane and get into an accident. I have been in an experience where I was in the car with someone and they were speeding by a lot and it was also raining, so it was this big spot of water and that person didn’t slow down when they saw it and we hydroplaned. I think some steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver as well to helps others become safe on the road would be to always pay attention on the road while you are driving, don’t try to be on your phone while you are driving, don’t show off in front of your friends while you are driving, and stay away from drinking and driving. These steps will help be a better and safe driver because if you pay attention on the road you won’t have to worry about something happening while you are not paying attention, if you don’t be on your phone while you are driving you won’t have to worry about you swerving into the other lane or having an accident because you are texting and driving. I think if you follow these steps and take driver’s education you can be a good driver and a safe driver.
