Drivers ed helps inform
new drivers about the importance of following rules and knowing the
impact impaired driving can do to themselves and others. In order to
reduce the number of accident-related deaths, teachers are instructed
to give visuals of how incorrect driving can negatively affect
someone.Whether it be fatalities or near death experiences. This is a
great way to prevent more accidents in the near future. Oftentimes in
class we are taught idealistic/ standard ways of driving, commoners
don’t drive as they are taught from the beginning. We evolve to
find your own style of driving, and we are not taught how to conform
our rules into something more plausible for our styles. Why can’t
teachers teach in more realistic and modern ways of driving? Maybe we
need to learn how to limit our usages of phones while driving, and
maybe teach that in all cases (including distracted driving, impaired
driving, or even focused and attentive driving) accidents can occur?
I have seen my own family be victims of distracted driving. My father
was nearly killed because the woman wouldn’t use your turn signals
and was potentially on her phone. Not only had she neglected basic
rules, she violated the laws of texting and driving. Sometimes there
is no distraction, there may be a mental dissociation that affects
someone’s focus. Their minds can wander and they forget what they
are doing. Unfortunately one of my friends lost her life because the
driver had spaced out at the wheel and hit a culvert in the middle of
the road. She was nowhere near distracted and unfortunately passed
away. Incidents like this can make one question why we haven't been
taught that not all accidents happen because of distracted and
imparied driving. This should be a requirement that our minds can
space out from our surroundings. How I help others by offering help
when the driver wants to get on the phone. I make sure that they know
I want them to be as focused on driving as they would on their phone.
